Each registered domain has no less than 2 Name Server records that show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your Internet domain to the servers of a particular web hosting company. In this way, you have got both your site and your emails managed by the exact same service provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are lots of other records, for instance A and MX. The first one shows which server handles the website for a given Internet domain and is always an IP address (, while the second one shows which server deals with the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For example, any time you enter a domain name in your Internet browser, your request is directed through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain uses and from there you could be forwarded to the servers of another service provider if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain address. Having independent records for the website and the e-mails means you can have your site and your emails with two different companies if you would like.

Custom MX and A Records in Website Hosting

If you have a website hosting from our company, you'll be able to view, create and modify any A or MX record for your domains. As long as a particular domain name has our Name Servers, you will be able to modify particular records by using our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your website or emails pointed to another service provider if you wish to use only one of our services. Our sophisticated tool is going to permit you to have a domain name hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted someplace else by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main domain at all. If you choose to use the email services of another provider and they want you to set up more than 2 MX records, you can easily do it with simply a few mouse clicks in the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. Also you can set different latency for each MX record i.e. which one will have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and modifying the A or MX records for any of your domains or subdomains is very easy if you acquire a semi-dedicated server plan from us. The accounts are maintained through our in-house built Hepsia CP, which includes a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domain names. The latter will be listed alphabetically and you could click on each of them to see both the A and the MX records. Editing any record is as easy as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even if you have never dealt with such matters before, you simply won't experience any difficulties if you decide to move your website or e-mails to a different provider while keeping the second service with our company. If required, you may also create additional MX records and set a certain priority depending on the instructions of the new provider.
